Sovu Educational Advisors to eradicate children idling
The educational advisors elected by Imbuto foundation are set to curb down the issue of school drop outs and idling among school going children in Sovu sector.
This was said by the executive secretary of Sovu sector referring to idling children that like to move along Birembo trading center.
The executive secretary of Sovu sector Mr. Joseph Mundanikure says ever since the education advisors started operating in all cells of Sovu, 80percent of school dropouts are back in schools.
Birembo Trading Center is known for having large numbers of children between 14 and 17 years idling around instead of going to school. Most of these school dropouts sell petty things like nuts, doughnuts, popcorns to earn a living no matter how small it is.
The small profits made by these children are what they survive on. Other children, who have no specific work, survive on making errands of carrying loads for people in the center.
Most of these school dropouts get out of school due to poverty and try to find employment to provide for themselves but instead end up idling around. This is the case of 15 years old Eric Tuyisenge and 16 years old Jean Uwizeyimana.
More than 20 youth found idling in Birembo Trading Center all say if they can get a sponsor for their education, clothing and food, they would gratefully go back to school without much ado.
The poverty issue that is leading most children to drop out of school is however not accepted by the most residents of Sovu sector. They argue that Sovu sector has fertile lands conducive for the growth of Tea, Irish potatoes and Wheat that provide farmers with decent lives.
The sensitization program is being made to parents and guardians in the sector to send their children to school no matter the conditions.
