Parents urged to cultivate reading culture in their children

Children from different schools in Nyagatare district who won in the competitive reading competition

Parents have been called on to encourage children adopt reading culture because they are the future leaders of the nation.

This was said during the event to conclude reading, writing and speaking competition that was held in Nyagatare district on June 6th 2014.

The competition was organised by Imbuto Foundation where seven schools participated.

“Parents should encourage children at a tender age to love reading. Children are the backbone and leaders of the country,” said Dr.John Rutayisire; Director General of Rwanda Education Board (REB).

“When a child is taught how to read early, he becomes brilliant and grows up loving it, said Emmanuel Nsabimana a resident of Mirama village.

“To make reading easy, the district will provide newspapers to parents at village level so that parents read and keep informed,” said Fred Atuhe Sabiti; mayor of Nyagatare district.

Imbuto Foundation is a non-profit-making organization established in 2006 aiming at supporting development of healthy, educated and prosperous society.

Through its projects, the Imbuto Foundation contributes to the fight against HIV/AIDS through prevention and care strategies.
