Rwanda | Rubavu: St. Wensisilas APEFOC School showcases activities to parents

To improve on education, St. Wensisilas APEFOC-Kanama has started showcasing students’ activities as a way of engaging parents in their children’s education.

This comes after the school administration found out that some parents send children to school and do not follow up on their education.

According to Sixbert Kwima, Director of Wensisilas APEFOC-Kanama reveals that when school authorities and parents combine efforts, it improves the quality of education.

The school director points out that the school has gone beyond teaching to participating into activities outside school through the talented students.

The school has set up a radio for students and Newspaper that emphasizes wellbeing, development and promoting students’ talents, he adds.

Jean Sebikari, executive secretary of Kanama sector denotes that students of this school are never caught in bars and drug abuse; crimes that are common among many youth.

Sebikari commends the school for sensitizing residents through its publications, news aired on the radio, and visiting cooperatives to advise them.

The school director stresses that they emphasize practical lessons more than theories for the purposes of passing exams.

Bondouin Bwanakweli Ngabo, Education Inspector in western province highlights that all schools should learn from APEFOC School and make their students practice what they study for the benefit of their future.
