This school is always the first in academics and entertainment, said Petero Selesitini Rwirangira during the event to celebrate 83rd anniversary of Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare.
While addressing students and visitors that had turned up for the occasion on September 23rd 2012, Father Rwirangira highlighted that this school has been on top of other schools for the past three years.
“The first science student in 2010 at national level, Aline was our student two years ago. In 2011, Aline became the first student at the college she goes to in United States of America,” he adds.
In 2011, Onesphore from Northern Province and a student of Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare emerged as the best student in sciences at national level.
Apart from academic excellence, this school performs best in recreation whereby the school dancing group won the first position consecutively in four secondary school dancing competitions, Father Rwirangira explains.
Father also narrated: “Our students owe this success from good morals, hygiene, focus and patriotism that manifests in their daily life.”
He gives an example of one of their students who got Chinese scholarship but returned to Rwanda for studies at KIST after realizing education there not better than Rwandan.
Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare is the first non seminary secondary school started in Burundi, Eastern Congo and Rwanda.
Apart from seeing some of the Rwandan born politicians, this school has awarded 6261certificates ever since it began.
