The introduction of the 12 Year Basic Education played a big role in reducing the number of school dropouts which has contributed to no more idlers and no street children in Gicumbi district.
Jullienne Uwamahoro, education officer in the area
This was said by Jullienne Uwamahoro the education officer in Gicumbi district on the 12th.Sept.2012 where she explained that this was due to sensitizing parents about the importance of education to their education and for 12YBE in particular.
Some of the 12YBE schools in all provinces are able to feed their students which makes students to study well with no hunger and concentrate. Usually students left schools because of poor conditions and not settling at school to concentrate due to worry of the conditions at home.
Charles Bakundukize a parent in this district agrees that these schools contributed greatly to eradication of street children and idlers in this district and those who don’t go to school are afraid of idling not to be taken into transit centers.
Many parents are grateful of 12YBE schools that educates their education though there are still limitations as many parents in villages complain that their childre3n do not revise well due to lack of electricity which leads to poor performance.
